To honour Black History Month this October, we are excited to introduce "Do You See Me?"—a powerful and insightful new handbook created through A Children's Participation Production. This handbook brings together the voices and lived experiences of sixteen young people from across the UK who are currently in foster care.
The handbook's content not only sheds light on the various forms of discrimination faced by young people, but it also highlights the specific challenges of experiencing racism while also being in foster care. It offers practical advice on how to navigate these situations and support others who may be facing similar adversities.
Written by Five Rivers National Participation and Engagement Officer, Olivia, and Senior Practitioner, Sheree, with the support of Yvonne Coppard from the Royal Literary Fund, "Do You See Me?" is enriched with photography created by the young people with the care-experienced rapper and artist Ric Flo.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. This year’s theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.
Foster carers are unable to differentiate between the workplace and their home lives. The wellbeing of our foster carers is a priority to us, which is why we place so much emphasis on the quality of care and support we offer to our foster families. Some of the support and services available to them include: regular supervision and support from an experienced team of professionals, access to focused support groups including fostering through the menopause and men in fostering, a membership with Fostertalk with access to 24/7 counselling and allegation support, 24/7 out of hours telephone support from a member of the social work team and mentoring from experienced foster carers. ...
