Become a foster carer with Safehouses

Safehouses Fostering is looking for caring, supportive and compassionate people to join our close-knit family of foster carers.

Our foster carers receive extensive training and 24/7 support from our community-centred, independent fostering agency based in Denshaw, just outside Oldham. We provide foster care services in West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and East Lancashire, covering a wide catchment area, including Oldham, Rochdale, Manchester, Tameside, Huddersfield, Salford, Wigan, Halifax, Trafford, Bacup, and everywhere in between.

If you feel you can provide a safe, stable home to a child, then get in touch with us today. We’d love to hear from you.

Why foster with us?

Personalised, unique service

We offer a service like no other. Unlike other fostering agencies, we’re a small, tightly woven team. This allows us to nurture strong relationships with our foster carers and create a sense of community. We pride ourselves on our heavily relationship-based approach and meet each week to discuss any issues, addressing everything as a team. Our 24/7 on-call and out-of-hours system is shared between our team members, meaning you’ll always reach someone you know and who understands your situation.

Respected and valued

Not only do we have incredibly positive relationships with our carers but also with local authority commissioners. This means we are the go-to agency in the area for any referrals. One reason for this is our consideration during the matching process and from the very start we do our utmost to find the right placement for the child and foster family. The matching process is crucial and getting it right first time means there’s less chance of a placement breaking down. We’re also an Ofsted Outstanding provider, rated outstanding in all areas.

Our process

Every foster carer is provided with their own supervising social worker and support worker.

Your supervising social worker is a fully qualified member of staff who manages the formal side of things, liaising with authorities, identify training needs and development areas for foster carer families, making sure carers have the appropriate training suitable to the care for any child that lives with them.

Your support worker is the cement between the bricks; they’re the ones helping you day-to-day, influencing and retaining positive relationships. It is your support worker who will visit you once a month (or more if required), provide recreational and educational support, organise participation groups for foster children and birth children, and much more.

Our foster carers are also provided with two teachers and a therapist.

The teachers are there to liaise with schools, attend PEP meetings, collate school reports and stats, support children who are out of school, and even provide tuition for children approaching exams, providing educational activity and resources.

There is a psychotherapist who is part of the team and integral to ensuring placements are supported. They are there to provide therapeutic support to our foster carers and deliver specialist training around therapeutic support, enabling you in turn to provide therapeutic support to foster children, if required.

It is this support network and holistic approach to fostering that allows us and our foster carers to function as a team around the child.

Meet the team

Wayne is our service manager. He is the friendly face and listening ear whose personal experience as a foster carer led him to help others become foster carers. He understands how rewarding a career in fostering can be and is truly passionate about offering the very best service to our carers and children. As a relationship-focussed, independent agency, we are consciously not hierarchal. That means Wayne is also here to lend a hand. He supports our staff, who support our carers, who support our children. We work a secure base model that values the individual – and that’s our motto.
